I decided that my first piece would be about my homeland and just some of the many reasons you have to come to visit. Also since I know all its ins and outs I can be your guide. So welcome to the most beautiful island in the Caribbean and my homeland Saint Lucia.

Saint Lucia is a beautiful tropical island, very popular with destination weddings, honeymooners and romance travellers, however, there are hidden gems that many travellers fail to see. The island is filled with fun and adventure a great place for family travel or those seeking to immerse themselves in a wonderful culture and escape. Let me give you some insights for your next getaway.

Flying into Saint Lucia from the USA is easy and speedy. There are nonstop services from Miami, Atlanta, John F Kennedy, Boston Logan, Charlotte, and Chicago. Making getting to Saint Lucia for a quick getaway is an absolute must.

I recently stayed at the beautiful Bay Gardens beach resort with my son and he had an absolute blast. This 4-star boutique resort is very personal from the arrival, to the check-in and those signature welcome drinks. The staff are wonderfully welcoming giving you that I know you from a past life feel.

This family-friendly resort caters to everyone. So if you are looking for a great place for that wedding, family reunions, school trips, romance travel or just want to get away, it checks all the boxes. I highly recommend the all-inclusive package as it is one of the best on the island. You order from the menu and that’s it. No lines for buffet everyday day, plus you get a choice of dining at seven different restaurants in the Rodney Bay area. So don’t feel like dining at the hotel tonight? No problem, select from any of the partner restaurants and they will even provide transportation to and from. If you do choose to stay and eat in the hotel, you won’t be disappointed either, the food is scrumptious. On the property, there are plenty of culinary experiences to enjoy. Since it’s home for me I always go local, I miss that green fig and saltfish, roti or stewed chicken all done in Lucian style. Okay, enough about the food it's getting me hungry for some home-cooked goodness.

The rooms at the Bay Gardens Beach resort are beautiful, with some designed for families featuring connecting doors and kitchenettes. I Travel with a toddler who is always hungry, so this setup works perfectly for me as it gives me the option to prepare some of his favourites quickly as well. The hotel provides entertainment nightly along with theme dinners, so there is always something going on to keep you entertained.

Located on the beautiful Reduit Beach, one of the island’s nicest beaches, the resort is also home to the islands only water park giving you another great reason for some family fun in the sun (not that you needed one). The Splash water park is a fun-filled adventure for adults and children six years and above, it is worth a day at the beach. If the beach is not your fancy, the pool is always available. Pick up some tubes and just relax while sipping on some island flavours. I love the ocean and my son loves the pool, he wins this one and left to him we would stay there from sunrise to sunset.

So if he gets the pool then my reward is that much-needed adult retreat featuring a spa day. Drop the kids at the Coral Kids Club and hop over to La Mer Spa. The Summer Glow Package was calling my name so I had to take some of that in before I return to reality.

We all know spa treatments make us hungry so why not try the Tradewinds restaurant for a Lucian roti. What is a Lucian roti,? A roti that comes with the delicious concoction we call bakes. It is fried bread that is a staple on the island. If you can’t get some creole bread, go for the bakes, you are welcome.

The Bay Gardens Beach Resort is a great place to just immerse yourself in the culture of Saint Lucia and make some great memories. Travelling alone, with family, single parent or for a romantic getaway, the hotel caters to your every need.
